Sollas was founded in July 1948 in warehouse Verwachting (“expectation” in Wormer), located just above the city of Amsterdam. The company, which was back then called Machinefabriek Verwachting (“machine factory Verwachting”), took care of the repairs and maintenance of machines in the Zaanse industry, one of the oldest industrial areas of Europe. Quickly the Dutch company started selling the first packaging machines. This type of machine, invented by Cees Sol, made use of welding technology and was aptly named Sollas (conjugation of Sol and “las”, the Dutch abbreviation for welding). Considering international trade, the company was renamed to Sollas in 1978.
From our headquarter in Wormer we have expanded to an international player in the packaging industry with offices in France, Germany, and the United Kingdom. Outside these countries we have a network of about fifty partners and distributors to aid us in delivering outstanding after-sales services and support. We have delivered over 15,000 machines, both standard and tailor-made, to companies worldwide. By continuously renewing and improving our machines we are a leading provider of end-of-line and overwrapping machines.

At Sollas we care about the future and find sustainability important, and we aim to keep innovating on this domain. Our machines have a long lifespan and are extremely efficient with (packaging) material. Overwrapping machines are currently able to also wrap in paper instead of plastic film. Futhermore, our head quarter and factory in Wormer largely are powered by solar energy.
Our sustainability efforts have been rewarded with a bronze medal from EcoVadis, the worldwide authority for reviewing sustainable business. We are currently aiming for platinum!
